Description
Ranging across the continent during the 19th and 20th centuries, they contributed to building the nation’s infrastructure. Pioneering lumberjacks led the way for the timber industry as businessmen saw that fortunes could be made. This documentary provides a timeline of the timber and logging industry, from the arrival of European settlers to the invention of plywood in the 1950s. It looks at how lumberjack culture developed and focuses on Frederick Weyerhaeuser’s timber empire, fueled by the Civil War and Westward Expansion. Finally, it examines how the conservation movement led to reforestation strategies and the creation of national forests.
