33rd Annual Winter Roundtable on Cultural Psychology and Education. A social justice imperative
Description
"If you light a lamp for someone it will also brighten your own path". Buddhist Proverb. In his keynote address at Columbia University’s Winter Roundtable of Cultural Psychology, Dr. Heppner reviews the goals and roles of a mentor. Mentoring is not a "one size fits all" approach, therefore one needs to consider the unique characteristics of each mentee, especially their cultural history. This promotion of sensitivity to cultural differences across educational environments can be both illuminating and inspiring for both the mentor and mentee, and can prepare students for challenging cultural environments they will face in their future.
