Animal models of concussive brain injury
Description
Animal models of injury allow investigators to more readily determine the associated pathophysiology and biomechanics, as well as test potential therapies. With regard to a concussive injury, several different animal models exist, including fluid percussion, weight-drop, pendulum-weight impactors, pure acceleration, controlled cortical impact, etc. While each is useful in its own right, each also differs from the others in significant ways. Animal Models of Concussive Brain Injury reviews the various available models and discusses their limitations. The video also details the components of an ideal model, as well as looks at how these components might be incorporated into future models.
