Medical challenges in the performing arts and in the female athlete
Description
Medical Challenges in the Performing Arts and in the Female Athlete focuses on the medical needs of two special populations of athletes - women and musicians. Featuring five well-respected sports medicine professionals, the video offers insights, ideas, and information on the medical challenges that these two groups face. Initially, Dr. Aurelia Nattiv provides an overview of the Female Athlete Triad Coalition Consensus Statement on the Treatment and Return to Play of The Female Athlete Triad. Next Dr. Elizabeth Joy reviews the guidelines, benefits, and risks regarding exercise during pregnancy for elite, recreational, and "non" athletes. The final three presentations (Randall Dick; John Snyder; Cathi Fontenot) explore the many similarities between musicians and athletes, details how sports medicine professionals might play a role in enhancing the level of well-being of these performing artists, as well as extend their careers, and discusses the barriers to adequate healthcare for musicians, as well as points out possible steps for overcoming those obstacles.
