60 minutes. Slave labor
Description
Some of the biggest names in German industry -- including Volkswagen, Daimler-Benz, Krupp, and BMW -- profited during World War II in part because they used slave and forced labor, Lesley Stahl reports in this piece from 1998. Millions of Jews, Poles, and Russians who were taken prisoner by the Nazis were enslaved, working under horrific conditions. Now the survivors have banded together and sued these companies, demanding compensation.
