Description
This segment discusses the disarmament problems involved with the nuclear weapons aimed at the U.S. and Russia left over after the end of the Cold War. The decision time for leaders to decide if a missile launched from any location may be headed toward their country is only a few minutes. There is no way to disarm after the retaliatory attack is launched. Sen. Sam Nunn discusses ways to deactivate the warhead or to increase the amount of time needed to launch in order to prevent a disastrous mistake. Steve Kroft reports.
