Counseling returning veterans with post traumatic stress disorder

Description

In this counseling session, the counselor will help clients understand and change how they think about the trauma and its aftermath. The goal is to understand how certain thoughts about the trauma cause stress and make the symptoms worse. The client will learn to identify thoughts about the world and self that are making him or her feel afraid or upset. With the help of the counselor, the client will learn to replace these thoughts with more accurate and less distressing thoughts. The client will also learn ways to cope with feelings such as anger, guilt, and fear.
