Exploring the world series. The Lewis & Clark trail. USA

Description

This program retraces the steps of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark as they moved westward in 1804 from Bismark, North Dakota, and continued along the Old West Trail to the end in Big Sky, Montana. Visitors can experience for themselves how the Lewis and Clark expedition opened the doors to western expansion. The first stop is Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, where visitors see a living history presentation at the 1875 home of Lt. Col. George Custer and his wife Mary and learn about the history of the Mandan Indians. In South Dakota, visitors tour the Black Hills and visit Mt. Rushmore. Then it's on to Nebraska and Ft. Robinson State Park, where Chief Crazy Horse was killed and many buffalo soldiers were stationed. Visitors can tour the museum there and learn more about the fort's long history. The next stop is Cody, Wyoming, a city known for its many historic buildings and the Buffalo Bill Historical Center and Museum. The natural beauty and grandeur of Yellowstone National Park, featuring Old Faithful, welcomes visitors at the next stop, and then it's on to the Gates of the Rocky Mountains in Helena National Forest, named by Meriwether Lewis as he wrote in his diary. The last stop is Pompey's Pillar National Historic Landmark near Billings, Montana. Here visitors can view William Clark's signature on the rock and experience a history book in sandstone!
