Eco-toilet- A standard British toilet uses nine litres of tap water each time it's used. That adds up to over 2 billion litres of clean water flushed away In the UK alone, every day. A potential answer to the problem is this--the Propelair Eco-toilet. Reindeer Festival- Each year Russia's Koryak people Gather to celebrate the natural bounty of the Reindeer herds they tend. These beautiful and gentle arctic animals are the centre of life for the Koryaks. Kenya Hydro- The Embu district in central Kenya is rather unusual--it has an abundance of water. It has a high annual rainfall and receives runoff from the snows of Mount Kenya. Many communities have no access to the electrical grid, but near the town of Chuka, water presented a solution. With the aid of a UN-managed global environment facility fund, the community has set up a hydro turbine, powering 56 homes. Railway To Road- A British company has developed a way to convert old railway lines into instant roads, using recycled rubber. These interlocking panels are already used at railway crossings and can be laid lengthways at the rate of a kilometre a day to create long-wearing new roads. Green Boats- The gateway of India, Mumbai, is enjoying a sea change. Ferries at the busy waterfront are becoming much more environmentally friendly, improving water and air quality. It began as a showcase project, supported by the energy research institute and funded by oil company, Bharat Petroleum. Initially only about 10 of the ferries were involved, but many more soon 'came aboard'. Elephants And Ivory- For centuries human beings have hunted elephants, their tusks highly valued for ivory. Once poachers began using automatic rifles, Elephant numbers fell dangerously low, resulting in a worldwide ban on ivory trade in 1989. Green Weddings- A white wedding turns green. This couple in Devon, Southwest England, chose to make their special day kind on the environment. For transport ... a comfortable two horsepower solution. And afterwards ... a celebration that was romantic and relaxed in a fairy-tale setting.
