Description
New Year, directed by Wang Xiaoshuai, one of the members of the Sixth Generation of Chinese filmmakers, shot in cinema verite style, the gathering of a far-flung Chinese family, around the bedside of a old man dying of stomach cancer. His daughter is held up in the United States due to enhanced security in the aftermath of 9/11. Will she get there in time to say her goodbye? A fascinating portrait of the Chinese medical system and of the importance of the family in Chinese society. Awards/Festivals: Won the video Golden Leopard at the Locarno Festival of 2002.
