Connect. Episode 15
Description
Amazon.com recently launched a new, bigger electronic reader service. By offering a larger screened kindle (the hand-held device used to read from) Amazon is opening more avenues for digital books. The medical school at Stanford University has taken a big step toward creating genetically compatible organs. Micro-circulatory beds help stem cells grow the tissue needed for transplant. Meanwhile, researchers at the Garvan Institute in Sydney have been working on a way to transplant organs without the need for immunosuppressant medication to prevent organ rejection. The trials have been successful in mice and scientists hope that one day patients will be able to get on with their lives without the cocktail of drugs necessary in current transplants.
