Environment at issue
Description
As we reach the end of the century, Americans are facing some potentially devastating environmental problems. Foremost among them are acid rain, the depletion of the ozone layer, global warming and smog. While there is broad public support for addressing these issues, there is disagreement - both among experts and among citizens - about how damaging these problems are likely to become and how much of our resources we should commit to solving them. Many proposed solutions could take a toll on our lifestyles and our pocketbooks. Environment At Issue is a hard-hitting look at the heated debate over environmental action now occurring in this country. It probes such issues as environmental risk, scientific uncertainty, the costs of environmental action and inaction, and the role of law in protecting our environment.
