KS2/3 RE. Rules and responsibilities. 1
Description
Lynne Broadbent, RE expert and author, worked with both primary and secondary teachers in Lewisham, south London. They devised a project for Year 6 RE pupils to help bridge the transition to secondary school and maintain motivation and attainment as they make this major change in their lives. Lynne describes the challenges that they faced in designing the scheme of work, and then primary teacher Shaun Burns takes us on a whistle stop tour of the content of the project. The pupils first learn about rules and responsibilities in the different world religions and secular society. Then they develop their own creeds for living their lives. The project aims to fulfil both the "learning about religions" and "learning from religions" attainment targets for RE. In a final part Lynne and Shaun get together to discuss how they and other teachers can take the project forward and help tackle the dip in attainment in RE not just in Lewisham, but nationally.
