School days. Michael Howard. 3

Description

Former leader of the Conservatives Michael Howard reveals how he was regarded as a natural rebel as a young boy in his Labour-dominated hometown of Llanelli in South Wales. He tells journalist Steve Richards about his preference for playing pool rather than doing schoolwork as a teenager and his ambitions to make it big playing with his skiffle group. He explains the impact his time at grammar school had on his views on grammar schools today. And we find out about Mr Howard's battle to convince his teachers that he was capable enough to go to Cambridge and why his entry exam involved an essay entitled 'Why I am an Angry Young Man?'
