Miranda Krestovnikoff comes to the rescue of Gloria Ukey, a part time primary trainee based in Ealing, who wants some advice on the induction process. First, Miranda visits headteacher Patrick Nash, chief executive of the Teacher Support Network. He recommends joining a teaching union, consulting with more experienced teachers and utilising PPA time effectively. She then meets Rhian Salmon, a Tropospheric Scientist from the British Antarctic Survey. Having wintered at one of the BAS bases, Rhian has some good advice on how to get on with colleagues when you're thrown into a new environment. Finally Miranda calls teacher and author of 'Yob Nation', Francis Gilbert, to hear about his experiences of induction. He highlights the work of support staff in the school and advises that new teachers would do well to build relationships with them.
