Broken promises

Description

""Broken Promises"" is the story of how American agents in Sweden in 2001 secretly deported two Egyptian men suspected of terrorism. The men were arrested by Swedish police and brought to an airport where they were handed over to US agents. They were then drugged, had their clothes cut off and were flown off in the now infamous white plane to prison and torture in Egypt. These are the extreme measures the West has resorted to in the war on terror. This revelation of a shocking abuse of human rights has been corroborated by similar stories in other countries. In January 2006, it prompted the EU Parliament to launch a thorough investigation into the activities of the CIA in Europe. This is a new documentary, based on several shorter stories produced in 2004 and 2005 by TV4 Sweden's current affairs programme. The award-winning investigative work by the team consisting of Fredrik Laurin, Joachim Dyfvermark and Sven Bergman, sparked a political uproar the world over, and strained relations between the US and the EU. ""Broken Promises"" is an important documentary of our time that raises the question of how far we can go in fighting terrorism.
