Chris Woodhead
Description
A series of programmes in which leading educational thinkers set out their vision for the future of our schools. Professor Chris Woodhead was Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Schools from 1994 to 2000. He is now the Sir Stanley Kalms Professor of Education at the University of Buckingham. He argues that the increasing emphasis placed on skills and creativity as opposed to knowledge of facts is a mistake. The subjects of the curricululm are, he argues, windows on the world. The more we know, the richer our lives. It is not possible to think in abstract or in a vacuum, so students must have knowledge of a subject before they can think.
