Banging chemistry
Description
Trainee teacher Emma Bradley is shown a series of nine quick-fire exo- and endo-thermic reactions by Dr Kay Stephenson from the Royal Society of Chemistry and Simon Quinnell of the National Science Learning Centre, York. The demonstrations have been chosen to highlight various aspects of chemistry such as rates of reaction and energy changes, e.g. the catalytic oxidation of ammonia and the reaction of potassium manganate (VII) and glycerol. All the reactions have been assessed as safe to carry out in the classroom by CLEAPPS and Emma hopes some real life chemistry will enthuse and inspire her students. With each demonstration she also gets some helpful tips on how to carry out the demonstrations safely and successfully in her classroom.
