Description
Two Portsmouth schools let the cameras in to report on their strategies for raising attainment in the face of local urban deprivation. Headteacher, Catherine Hobbs, tells the turnaround success story of St John's Cathedral Catholic Primary School, where a focus on attendance and provision of individual support has brought about significant improvements.We follow a Year 6 class on the Up for It Juniors scheme as they take part in a mini lecture and graduation ceremony at the University of Portsmouth. Extended Services Manager at Portsmouth County Council, Mark Scarborough, highlights the benefits of a their work to co-ordinate childrens services agencies in an area of urban deprivation. We also find out how a mobile skatepark at St Edmund's Secondary School in Portsmouth is helping to bridge the gender attainment gap.
