Departmental poetry strategies
Description
The pupils and staff at Westwood College, a secondary modern that has recently come out of special measures, reflect on the school's homogenous, suburban environment and its teaching and learning styles. The enthusiasm of the English department is evident as they discuss the value of studying poetry from different cultures and traditions and the pupils offer insight into their thoughts on the value of poetry and the effectiveness of different teaching styles. The staff unite in defence of their pupils right to intellectual development and academic achievement.
