Governing ideas
Strategic Planning History
Getting STARTED
2000
- Chancellor Richard H. Wells initiated a strategic planning process in October 2000. He requested information, advice and counsel from hundreds of people from all areas of the University community: administration, faculty, academic staff, classified staff, students and alumni, as well as governmental and community representatives.
2001
- In February 2001, the Chancellor reported the findings of his request to the University.
- Focus groups were conducted, a U-PLAN Council was formed with representatives from all campus governance groups and task forces were established.
- Retreats and forums were held to review the evolving document, which was then adopted and published as the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Governing Ideas.
- A series of 23 action priorities were developed to implement the strategic directions of the Governing Ideas.
Making PROGRESS
During the three years since the Governing Ideas were established, much progress has been made toward achieving our action priorities. The Chancellor called an August 2004 strategic planning retreat to assess progress made toward implementing the Governing Ideas and to further define what makes the University distinct.
