2006-2007 Student Affairs Report
- The Counseling Center received a $220,000 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration grant to address student mental health issues, particularly depression and suicide. Center staff members have conducted Gatekeeper Training workshops for almost 500 faculty and staff members to assist them in identifying and assisting students at risk.
- SARRT, Students At-Risk Response Team, was developed to coordinate student service resources to aid students in distress. SARRT is a centralized network focused on prevention and early intervention for students experiencing extreme distress or engaging in harmful or disruptive behaviors with a focus on student success. SARRT was identified by the Governor's Task Force on Campus Safety as a best practice.
- Titan Jobs listed 1,101 positions, added 96 new employers and posted 5,200 student resumes. More 1,600 students participated in career fairs with 414 employers present from more than 270 companies.
- Intercollegiate athletics hosted the NCAA Division III Track meet on campus with more than 1,200 outstanding track athletes and coaches from all over the country in attendance. The track meet also was held on the same weekend that UW Oshkosh hosted the NCAA Division III World Series in Appleton. No other Division III institution has ever hosted two championship events on the same weekend.
- UW Oshkosh hosted a national student leadership conference, NACURH, National Association of College and University Residence Halls. Student leaders from 250 campuses from all over the U.S. and Canada were in attendance with more than 2,000 participants for the four-day conference. Local and national community service was a cornerstone of the conference.
- Residence Life, in conjunction with a variety of faculty members, developed and offered a First-Year Student housing option in the NBC Village. The housing option was the most popular for incoming freshmen. The program's first cohort began in fall 2008.
- Differential Tuition was evaluated, assessed and reauthorized by UW Oshkosh students and the Board of Regents. Differential Tuition supports enhanced and new academic initiatives, such as career counseling and development, advising, tutoring and supplemental instruction, and undergraduate research and creativity.
- Sarah Schettle, UW Oshkosh student leader and two-sport athlete, won the NCAA Sportsmanship award. The award is given to one male and one female collegiate athlete selected from all divisions.
- Model UN won its 23rd consecutive outstanding delegation award this past spring in New York City. The group competed against more than 4,000 delegates from across the globe.
- Financial Aid reported that the default rate of UW Oshkosh students/graduates on federal educational loans is 1 percent, which is one of the lowest default rates in the state and country. Credit goes to the students and the work of financial aid staff members who provide financial counseling.
- Reeve Memorial Union added dragon boats races to the Fall Fest on the Fox lineup and partnered with the community and campus to provide a successful event.
- Construction began on the 104,000-square-foot Student Recreation and Wellness Center, which opened its doors to students on Sept. 10, 2007.
