Mentoring Application

Process:In this year-long program, tenured faculty with SoTL research experience will meet monthly with tenure-track faculty participants for dialogue related to scholarly investigation of teaching and learning. Initial, mid-year and final dialogues will be held among all the participants, while monthly dialogues will involve one mentor and two tenure-track participants.

Program Goal: This program will assist tenure-track participants in initiating research related to teaching and learning.

Application Procedure and Timeline:
The second class of mentors will be comprised of at least one tenured faculty and one tenure-track faculty member. Both team members should have a demonstrable interest in SoTL research.

The program goal is to assist tenure-track faculty to develop and initiate a SoTL project.

Project applications are due to the SoTL Office by October 6. Applications should include a vita from each team member and one to two paragraph statement describing the applicants’ interest in SoTL. We do not anticipate that Mentoring teams will have a well-developed project in mind. Applications can be emailed or mailed to SoTL Initiative/CST co-coordinator, Marianne Johnson at johnsonm@uwosh.edu . Please feel free to contact Dr. Johnson with any questions about your proposal. The SoTL Steering Committee, Initiative Coordinator, and Director of the Office of Grants and Faculty Development will make the selections by October 18.

An opportunity for discussion of project possibilities will be held during the Second Annual Provost’s Teaching and Learning Summit, Oct. 30-Nov. 4. Participants should be able to commit to attending the luncheon workshop on doing SoTL research, on Wednesday, November 1, from 11:45am to 1pm in Reeve Union 207.

Both members of the mentoring team will receive $500 in professional materials allowances, which can be used to purchase resources that enhance professional development related to the teaching or to support SoTL research or conference/workshop participation. (If there are additional team members, money will be split evenly among all participants.)

A campus showcase of the projects planned during the mentoring period will occur during the Fall 07 Third Annual Provost’s Teaching and Learning Summit.

SoTL Mentoring Program is generously funded by the Provost’s Office, UW Oshkosh.
