Information about Dr. Carol Hand.

Carol A. Hand, BA in Social Work (University of Wisconsin-Madison), MSSW (University of Wisconsin-Madison), and Ph.D. in Social Welfare (University of Wisconsin-Madison).

Dr. Hand joined the faculty in August 2007 as an Associate Professor. Previously, she served on the faculty of The University of Montana (2004-2007) and Illinois State University (2000-2004). She is Ojibwe, a member of the Sokaogon Chippewa Mole Lake Band. Dr. Hand's practice has spanned over many years, and includes policy and administrative positions with Wisconsin state government, regional advocacy organizations, and Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council. She has worked as a consultant with grant-writing, program development, and program evaluation. Her research has focused on caregiving and elder abuse, Indian child welfare, and urban Indian health. Currently she is completing a study in partnership with the Missoula Indian Center that is based on the application of a liberatory praxis paradigm. She has plans to continue to explore the application of liberatory praxis principles for social work practice, teaching, and research.
