Social Welfare History Group Essay Competition

The Social Welfare History Group (SWHG) is happy to announce its second history essay student scholarship award. The first place award is $300 and the second place award is $200. The awards will recognize historical research and scholarship. We invite papers for consideration.

BPD Summer 2009 Policy Fellow Application

BPD invites BSW students who are currently enrolled or who have completed a policy course(s) to apply for the Summer 2009 Policy Fellow Award

sponsored by the Association of Baccalaureate Social Work Program Directors (BPD) in collaboration with the Institute for the Advancement of Social Work Research (IASWR) 2009 BSW graduates may apply.

Deadline for receipt of the application materials is February 20, 2009. The winner of the 2009 Summer Policy Fellow Award will be announced by March 31, 2009.

Excellence Award

The Excellence Award is an annual scholarship honoring the academic achievement and demonstrated commitment to social work service by social work students. This award is given toward tuition for the student's next academic year. The amount varies year to year.

Eligibility:

  • Continuing social work majors who have attained junior standing;
  • Students may self-nominate by forwarding their name and a brief written rationale dealing with the basis for nomination to a member of the Excellence Award Committee by Februrary 23rd of the current year;
  • Faculty members may nominate candidates who they believe have established a record of high academic achievement including consideration of CGPA, demonstrated originality and excellence in class performance, and other factors encompassing academic excellence. Additional criteria will include a record of significant community service and/or work with the Student Social Work Association. Faculty nominations should be forwarded to a member of the Excellence Award Committee by February 20th of the current year along with a brief written rationale detailing the basis for the recommendation.

A monetary award program for MSW students interested in Clinical Social Work.  More information to come...

 

Lois Miranda Advocacy Award

The Lois Miranda Advocacy Award is named after the retired (now deceased) Social Work Faculty member at UW Oshkosh. She was tireless in her dedication and advocacy of marginalized populations. In her memory, students who model her advocacy work, will be awarded. To honor her, a fund was begun and a plaque created to share awardees names each year. This plaque hangs in the Social Work Office. The award amount varies year to year.

Nominations must be made by someone on campus, other than the nominee. The nominee does not have to be a Social Work major. The Lois Miranda Advocacy Award will be awarded to a Senior.

This year, the deadline is February 16, 2009.

Touch the World Student Scholarship Contest

Pearson Allyn and Bacon are offering five $600 scholarships to BSW and MSW students and Pearson books for their courses and professional library! 

Please go to the Pearson Social Work/ Family Therapy/ Human Services website and choose the "Scholarship" and "Entry Form."

Students submit a 500-word essay on how they plan to teach the world using their social work degree. Send in one recommendation from a professor and grant permission to Pearson Allyn and Bacon to quote your essay.

Deadline for submission:  May 31, 2009

isconsin Nursing Home Social Work Association

The Wisconsin Nursing Home Social Work Association is offering scholarships to individuals who express interest in working with individuals in long term care. The number of scholarships has not yet been determined, however, there will be a $1000 Sister Victoria Caroll Memorial Scholarship awarded. The deadline for consideration is April 20, 2009.
