As one of the helping professions, Social Work strives
to serve populations which are vulnerable, in need of basic services
and resources, or attempting to make a change in lives. Positions
in human service settings address a wide range of issues, such as
child welfare, chemical dependency, physical and mental health, aging,
and corrections. Social workers are also concerned with the community
or setting in which people spend their daily lives in. As well as
helping on a personal level, a career in Social Work can include working
for social change, to benefit the larger community.
The Department
of Social Work, UW Oshkosh, offers programs for both the Bachelor
of Social Work (BSW) and the Masters of Social Work (MSW) degrees.
The BSW has been fully accredited since 1975. The Collaborative MSW
received accreditation in June, 2006 by the Council
on Social Work Education.
