PeopleSofts Student Information System (SIS) is currently under development with the assistance of a number of charter and beta universities. It is scheduled for general release in December 1997. UW Oshkosh expects to install PeopleSoft in early 1998.
The question has been raised from numerous offices, what do I need to put on the desktop to access and utilize PeopleSoft?
At this time, the recommendations are:
For Windows:
Processor:Pentium 133 MHz
Memory: 32 MB
Hard Disk: 1.2 GB
OS: Windows 95
For Macintosh:
Processor: PowerPC
Memory: 16MB+ RAM (virtual memory turned on)
Hard Disk: 25MB of free disk space
Almost all new systems available from the Universitys standard desktop vendors--IBM, Compaq, and Apple--meet or exceed these requirements.
In other words: desktop configurations that satisfy basic office productivity and network application needs will also be sufficient for most types of PeopleSoft access.
Regarding software, if you plan to use or anticipate using PeopleSoft to generate reports or analyses, you should acquire MicroSofts MS Office suite (includes Word and Excel). Installing or upgrading to MS Office 97 is recommended. In addition, you will need Eudora POP mail software to utilize PeopleSofts e-mail capabilities.
