SIS Update: Financial Aid Implementation

February 1, 1999

A revised implementation plan for the Financial Aid component of the PeopleSoft SIS has been adopted. The SIS Project Management Team and the Financial Aid Office recommended this plan.

The University will "go live" with PeopleSoft Financial Aid in June 1999, along with the other SIS modules (Student Records, Student Financials, and Admissions). However, processing for students in the 1999-2000 Financial Aid cycle will cont inue to be done for one more year on the legacy Student Master File (SMF). Processing for students in the 2000-2001 Financial Aid cycle, and all subsequent cycles, will be done on PeopleSoft, beginning in January 2000.

This decision will allow for a smoother migration from the SMF to PeopleSoft, avoiding a "mid stream" transition for students in the 1999-2000 cycle. Although particular students will be included in both the 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 cycles, d ata for each cycle will be entered only once (either into the SMF or into PeopleSoft). The decision also eliminates the need for a significant data conversion effort in the next few months to bring legacy Financial Aid data into PeopleSoft.

To implement this plan some programming must be done on the SMF Financial Aid component to make it Year 2000 compliant. This programming is limited in nature and will begin immediately.

The University believes this decision best serves student Financial Aid awardees.
