Science Safari for Middle School or Science Safari & Expedition for Grades 3-6

The Science Safari for Middle School will be held on Sat., Jan. 12, 2013. The Science Safari (for girls) and Science Expedition (for boys) for grades 3-6 will be held on Sat., April 20 & Sat., Nov. 2, 2013. These events are held on campus at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh from 9-noon. Children will pick 3 sessions to attend and rotate throughout the morning for a hands-on, action-packed science experience.

  • Send the registration form along with $10/participant to (or $7/student with a free and reduced lunch status): Science Outreach, UW-Oshkosh, 800 Algoma Blvd., Oshkosh, WI, 54901.  
  • There isn’t a scheduled break for the kids. However, if you’d like to send along a snack, please do so. There are vending machines available in Halsey Science Center (where the event is held).
  • DEADLINE: Friday, April 12, 2013
  • Registration fees are non-refundable.
  • Confirmations will be sent via email unless unavailable then will be sent via U.S. postal service.

Get ready to launch! Build your own popsicle stick catapult while learning the physics of projectiles.

Bubble Gum Mania

Will Orbit gum really clean a dirty mouth? Is Dentyne better for your teeth? Find out in this fun investigation that will make your dentist smile.

CSI

Has someone been sneaking away with your stuff? Learn how to analyze hair samples,lift fingerprints, and perform blood typing so you can catch the culprit.

*Hovercrafts

Whisk yourself away with the science of friction while you take a ride on our hovercraft. Then, build a min-hovercraft to take home.

POLYMERS

Perform a little polymer chemistry and bring home some oozy goops. We will make gack, slime and oobleck.

R is for Robot

Are you ready for robots? Learn how to program our Lego Mindstorms robots to do your bidding!

Stomp Rockets

Shoot for the sky while you learn how to use air pressure to launch your own homemade rockets.

Wind-Powered Vehicles

Be an engineer and design a small wind-powered vehicle.

Sink or Swim

Make your own submarine and see how these devices work.

Geocaching for Kids

Do you like scavenger hunts? Learn how to find treasures (caches) using a GPS unit.
