Leaving a Legacy

Over the years, there have been numerous gracious donations to the Radio-TV-Film program and it only continues to grow. The only way we thrive is by alumni like you leaving a legacy.

Leaving a legacy can be defined in many ways. To Trevy McDonald (’90), leaving a legacy “is for students that come behind you and follow you- they will be more motivated to shoot for the stars.” McDonald attended the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh on a foundation scholarship and learned all about radio, television and film. Now she teaches several courses at the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill. “I encourage everyone to give back, no matter how small of an amount. They add up. They help us leave a legacy and create opportunity for students coming along behind us.”

Dr. Harris Liechti, a former Radio-TV-Film faculty member and founder of the International Film Series, established a scholarship upon his passing in 2002. Liechti taught courses in television production, film history, educational telecommunications and telecommunications of the future. As an important part of the Radio-TV-Film department, he gave back to the organization and will supply an RTF student with financial aid to further their education.

Several other alumni have left a legacy and continue to do so every day. Mark Krueger ('90) established the Gerald Krueger Film Development Award in honor of his father to encourage the production of films that engage, entertain and enlighten. Marty Skibosh ('03), Matt Muchka ('04), Tom Pistohl ('06), Lana Gitter ('04) and Emery Bates ('05) have contributed to RTF’s Motion Picture Workshop. The former Radio-TV-Film students felt it is important to leave a legacy because of the connections they have today.

If you are interested in leaving a legacy of your own, there are three funds that are available for donations: The RTF Excellence Fund, the Film Production Fund, and the Dr. Robert L. Snyder Scholarship.

Please indicate that your gift is for the Radio-TV-Film program as well as which fund your gift is designated for. Click here to give. Thank you for your support.
