Advanced degree schooling, Iowa State University

Ben Jarman's experience in broadcast education, commercial and non-commercial radio spans over thirty years. In 2003 he received the Distinguished Teaching Award from UW-Oshkosh.

Over the last decade, his advanced students have consistently received regional and national recognition in radio production in National Broadcasting Society competitions. Most recently he has been involved in a major radio remodeling project at WRST-FM. Upon completion the R-T-F program radio studios will be completely accessible for those students with disabilities who have wheelchair access special needs. All five University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh radio station studios will be in compliance with the “Americans With Disabilities Act.”

While firmly grounded in full-service local radio traditions, Ben Jarman believes in keeping an eye to the future. Examples of this vision include his continuing academic support for the student developed and managed local programming, support as faculty advisor for the university radio station's web page and daily web casting service, oversight of recent digital upgrades of station editing and field recording equipment, and on-going managerial

support for the WRST-FM transmission system as the station prepares for in-band on-channel terrestrial broadcasting.

Advice to Students: Get involved as soon as possible. Join one of the student organizations in the major. Your options include Titan TV, WRST-FM, Film Society, International Film Series, National Broadcasting Society, and Commercial/Promo Production Club.
