Scholarships

The psychology department offers students four scholarships:

  1. George R. Soika Scholarship Fund
  2. Dr. Roy and Geraldene Dixon-Robinson Scholarship Fund
  3. Som N. Ghei and Ram Kaur Ghei Scholarship Fund
  4. Michael D. Kogutek Scholarship Fund

Please note, Beatrice Barlow Lampert and Phillip D. Lampert Scholarship and Bowman Scholarship are also open to Psychology Students.

When applying, you need to prepare:

1) Current STAR report;

2) Short essay (less than 1,000 words) discussing:

  1. educational and career plans, including whether you plan to attend graduate school in psychology.
  2. how your experiences outside of college classes (e.g., research, volunteer, work, club activities) have contributed to your educational experience. This is particularly important for the Kogutek Scholarship.
  3. financial need.

3) Two faculty recommendations (at least one must be from a psychology faculty member).

George R. Soika Scholarship

The George R. Soika Scholarship Fund will award ONE $2,000 scholarship payable toward tuition the following fall. Applicants must:

  • Be full-time enrolled Psychology majors
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Have one to three semesters remaining at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh
  • Be able to demonstrate breadth of interest within and beyond psychology
  • Have a GPA of 3.4 or better

Dr. Roy and Geraldene Dixon-Robinson Scholarship

The Dr. Roy and Geraldene Dixon-Robinson Scholarship Fund will award TWO $1,000 scholarships payable toward tuition the following fall. Applicants must:

  • Be a sophomore or junior majoring in psychology
  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Demonstrate financial need

Som N. Ghei and Ram Kaur Ghei Scholarship

The Som N. Ghei and Ram Kaur Ghei Scholarship Fund will award TWO $1,500 scholarships to two female psychology majors payable toward tuition the following fall. The family designated this scholarship for female students in honor of the donor’s grandmother who was never able to obtain an education. Applicants must:

  • Be full-time enrolled psychology majors
  • Have one to three semesters remaining at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh
  • Have a GPA of 3.00 or better
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Be planning to attend graduate school in psychology

If the student who receives this scholarship is accepted into the graduate program in psychology at the UW Oshkosh, she is eligible for an additional $2,000 to be applied to tuition in the first semester of full-time graduate study.

Michael D. Kogutek Scholarship

The Michael D. Kogutek Scholarship Fund will award ONE $1,000 scholarship payable toward tuition the following fall. Participation in University-wide extra-curricular activities (excluding athletics) will be a strong consideration in this award. Applicants must:

  • Be a full-time enrolled psychology major
  • Have one to three semesters remaining at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Have a GPA of 3.00 or better
  • Demonstrated commitment to the field of psychology
  • Be planning to attend graduate study in psychology

2017 Scholarship Recipients

Amy Hodel: Roy C. Dixon-Robinson Memorial Scholarship ($1000)

  • Amy Hodel, age 22, is a junior at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh majoring in psychology. Her personal aspirations and academic goals relate to the field of both mental and physical health, which she hopes to apply to her overall goal of earning her masters as an occupational therapist. She has learned to find equal meaning in the repeated rituals of domestic life, and feels passionately in allowing others to understand that same feeling. Amy sincerely enjoys being able to be an active leader of various clubs and organizations on campus, collaborating with professors to conduct research, as well as volunteering her time in the Oshkosh community, especially at Day by Day warming shelter. She feels her personal aspirations and academic goals have been fully supported by the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, and for that she will forever be grateful.

Ashley Jensen: Roy C. Dixon-Robinson Memorial Scholarship ($1000)

  • Ashley Jensen is in her third year of undergraduate study and pursuing a degree in Psychology.  She looks forward to becoming involved with research in Cognitive Psychology in the fall.  After graduating in the spring she plans pursuing a masters in Clinical Psychology.  Her special interest is helping people in the prison system.

Markus Oechsner: George R. Soika Scholarship ($2000)

  • Markus is a junior who wants to continue his research on optimism and coping behaviors to improve the lives of individuals. He wishes to attend graduate school where he can continue this pursuit.

Alyssa Schultz-Bruecker: Som N. Ghei and Ram Kaur Ghei Scholarship ($1500)

  • Alyssa Schultz-Bruecker is a senior planning to graduate in Fall 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She is the Psi Chi treasurer, an undergraduate research assistant and a member of The National Society of Leadership and Success. Alyssa plans to attend graduate school to pursue a doctoral degree in Behavior Analysis. With this degree, she hopes to continue to impact the lives of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and make influential contributions to this field of research.

Rebecca Tolfa: Som N. Ghei and Ram Kaur Ghei Scholarship ($1500)

  • Rebecca Tolfa is a senior planning to graduate in Spring 2017 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. She is the Psi Chi secretary, a research ambassador for Undergraduate Research Experiences and Creative Activities, and an undergraduate research assistant. Rebecca plans to attend graduate school to pursue a doctoral degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. With this degree, she hopes to conduct research contributing to reducing discrimination and increasing safety in the workplace.

Zoe Meyers: Michael D. Kogutek Scholarship ($1000)

  • Zoe Meyers is a junior majoring in Psychology. After graduation, she plans to pursue a PhD in Counseling. Eventually she would like to work with veterans, and possibly children.
