Endowed Professorships 2008
There are no Professorships available in 2008
The Chancellor, in consultation with the donors and the UW Oshkosh Foundation Board, shall be responsible for the administration of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Program of Endowed Professorships. The Provost and Vice Chancellor, in consultation with the Deans, will be responsible for formulating recommendations for the policies and procedures of the program. Faculty members and governance groups shall be asked to provide advice and comments on all aspects of the program.
Endowed Professorships may be of several types:
- University-wide and available to faculty in any college
- Restricted to a particular college, division or discipline
- Interdisciplinary or intercollegiate for broad subject area
Honorary Degree: Spring 2008 Commencement
Faculty, staff, students and private citizens are welcome to nominate candidates for a UW System honorary degree. These honorary degrees are to be bestowed on individuals of exceptional accomplishment and distinction who have made significant contributions to the university, region, state or nation. The UW Oshkosh Honorary Degree Committee recommends recipients to the Chancellor. The Chancellor and University of Wisconsin System President recommend nominees to the Board of Regents.
The Award
Strong consideration is given to those who:
(a) have contributed significantly to the University, to the state, or to the nation
(b) are distinguished alumni
Distinguished Teaching Award Nomination Form
Each year the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh recognizes the contributions of its faculty and instructional academic staff members with the Distinguished Teaching Award.
The purpose of the Distinguished Teaching Award is to emphasize the University's commitment to teaching excellence and stressing the importance of teaching to the University.
One to three faculty and one to three instructional academic staff will be selected each year to receive the prestigious title of Distinguished Teacher.
John McNaughton Rosebush University Professorship
For Excellence in Teaching, Professional Achievement and Service
All members of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh community (faculty, staff, and students) are eligible and encouraged to nominate members of the teaching faculty for the John McNaughton Rosebush University Professorship. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
The John McNaughton Rosebush University Professorships were named for John McNaughton Rose-bush who directed University development and the UW Oshkosh Foundation in the 1970s. The award was established in 1979 by Chancellor Edward Penson with corporate and individual contributions.
One of the University's most coveted awards, the professorships are granted for excellence in teaching, professional achievement and public service. Candidates are considered in a rigorous selection process by a panel representing all university governance groups.
The John McNaughton Rosebush University professorships serve to reinforce the connection between teaching and research recognizing that teaching is primary and that research strengthens the teaching function. These remain the most important endeavors of the faculty and will be given primary considera-tion by the Committee. (Faculty Senate Minutes, November 6, 1979).
