Center for Academic ResourcesThe Center for Academic Resources offers several kinds of tutoring: one-on-one content tutors are available for most courses on campus, Supplemental Instruction (SI) sessions for large 100- and 200- level courses, weekly Peer Educator Review Sessions (PERS), and tutoring for other skills such as learning strategies and technology use. SI and PERS occur at regularly scheduled times and locations; students schedule their own content tutoring appointments and can work with a tutor any time that CAR is open. |
Center for Academic Support and DiversityThe Center for Academic Support and Diversity serves as an academic help center serving African American, Hispanic American, Asian American (including Hmong), American Indian and qualified first-generation and low-income students at the university. Services include academic advising and counseling, tutoring, forums, workshops, career days, cultural programs, and referrals to other services. |
English Language AssistanceThrough face-to-face tutoring sessions, the English Language Tutor can help non-native speakers of English with processing course materials, speaking English, English grammar, and writing in English. Tutoring sessions are scheduled according to the needs of the student and typically last between 30- and 60- minutes. Students can schedule tutoring appointments by contacting Mickey Goggin at gogginm@uwosh.edu or by calling (920) 424-2290. The tutoring schedule and hours for Fall 2010 is Monday - Friday 12pm - 4pm. |
Math LabThe Department of Mathematics operates two free drop-in tutor labs, both located in Swart Hall. The Mathematics Tutoring Lab in Swart 113 is designed to assist students enrolled in Math 104, 106, 108, 110, 171, 172, 201, 204, 206, 211, 217, 273, and PBIS 187, 188, and 189. The Developmental Mathematics Lab in Swart Hall 327 welcomes all Math 100 Elementary Algebra and math 03 Intermediate Algebra students. |
Native American Student ServicesThis office coordinates the retention services for Native American students assisting them with all aspects of their college experience, personal as well as academic. Services include linkages with office such as the Center for Academic Support and Diversity, Center for Academic Resources, Counseling Center, Math Lab, Reading Study Center, McNair Scholars program, and the Writing Center. The office also assists admissions with the recruitment of Native American students through community outreach events and serves as a cultural resource for the whole campus community. Reading Study CenterThe Reading Study Center is an all-university service whose mission is to facilitate the development of efficient college-level learning strategies in students of all abilities. Strategies for improved textbook study, time management, note taking, test preparation, an test-taking are taught through both credit courses and non-credit services. |
Student Support ServicesThe mission of Student Support Services (SSS) at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is to empower 300 qualifying students to articulate and achieve their own personal, educational and career goals by providing services, resources and support that promote retention and graduation. SSS will encourage continued personal development, personal responsibility and lifelong learning. |
Writing CenterThe University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Writing Center aims to help all students become better writers. Center staff members assist both experienced and inexperienced writers through free one-on-one, collaborative sessions with trained consultants, and we assist at any stage of the writing process for any assignment or project and in any discipline. |
