Han Rotation:

Our ground squirrels are currently bred from a small group of wild foundation animals captured from two large cemeteries about 20 miles apart. Our captive mating system is the so-called HAN rotation (developed in Hannover, Germany; Rapp 1972). This breeding scheme is designed to minimize homozygosity in a small, closed population. We have the option of capturing additional wild animals to add genetic diversity in the future, if desired.
