Reality Bytes! Advising and Career Planning Issues for Students Leaving Technical Fields

Friday, May 9, 2003

2:00-3:30 PM

Panelists:
Tammy Salmon-Stephens and Helen Hadorn, UW-Platteville Engineering Advising; Advising & Career Exploration Services

What happens when a student wants out of a science, math, or technology major? These students face a unique set of challenges that place them at risk of leaving the University altogether. The presenters will provide a framework for providing services to these students as they redirect their academic work. You will also learn more about the "subtypes of decidedness" and explore how career planning activities can be used in concert with advising techniques to support and retain these students in transition. Participants will leave with practical ideas and techniques that can be implemented on their campuses.
