UWS Women & Science Program Spring Retreat  "Celebrate What Works!"

3/20/02 Update: Due to UW System budget-related suspension of all System sponsored conferences and related travel, it is with great sadness that we must cancel the 2002 Spring Retreat. We hope to see you at future retreats and will continue to keep you posted on future UW System Women & Science activities. (Click here for our calendar of events page.)

The Women and Science Program hosts an annual retreat for past participants in Program events and all interested faculty in the UW System. Everyone is welcome!

Spring Retreat for 2002 is scheduled for May 16 - 17 at the Wilderness Hotel and Golf Resort www.wildernessresort.com. Cost, with the exception of travel, was covered by the Women & Science Program. More information about the Wisconsin Dells area is available on www.wisdells.com. More information about the retreat schedule and events will be posted to this site on a future date. We are really looking forward to the 2002 retreat!

Preliminary Schedule, May 16-17, 2002 Retreat.

Thursday, May 16th
12:30 - 1:30	Lunch Introductions and agenda review
1:30 - 4:00	Round Robin Discussions The issues: What are student and faculty expectations for "good learning"? What is the impact of innovation on these expectations? The topics: Assessment Feedback Co-Teaching/Team Teaching Feedback Student Evaluation of Instructors Feedback
4:00-4:15	Break
4:15-4:45	Information item Revised teacher preparation requirements in Wisconsin.
4:45-5:00	Introduction of participants to Cora Marrett Each group will be asked to bring an artifact that represents their institution, their department, or a recent innovation.
5:00-5:45	Keynote Address Dr. Cora Marrett, UW System Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs
6:00-7:00	Dinner
7:00-8:30	Dessert and Resource Open House
Friday, May 17th
7:00 - 8:00	Breakfast
8:00 - 10:00	Question: What happens when you change a course but not a department? Small group discussion Reports on successful strategies

10:15 - 12:15	Reports on Innovation from the Curriculum Reform Instution Teams: Did it work?

Goals: To provide practical information about student-centered pedagogies as they apply to science classes, to introduce educators to resources that support excellence in teaching, and to foster connections between participants.

Family Resources: UW System regulations allow us to only cover expenses for UW System employees. Families are welcome all at Women & Science events, but the participant is responsible for covering any cost difference.
