Cathedral of Seville
The Cathedral of Seville is the third largest church in the world after Saint Peter's in Rome and Saint
Paul's in London; however it is arguably the largest church in the world when compared using the
measurement of volume. Seville's fifteenth century cathedral occupies the site of the former great
mosque built in the late twelfth century.

The tower on the left, La Giralda is a large and beautiful minaret tower, originally intended for a mosque,
but is now the magnificent bell tower of the Cathedral (and symbol of Seville).

The Alcázar of Seville
The Alcázar of Seville is a royal palace in Seville.

Patio de las Muñecas (Courtyard of the Dolls). The courtyard was used as the set for the court of the
King of Jerusalem in his movie Kingdom of Heaven.

The gardens surrounding the Alcázar of Seville.

The palace is one of the best remaining examples of Mudéjar architecture, so I hear from my sister (and
confirmed by Wikipedia), a style under Christian rule in Spain but using Islamic architectural influence.

Me in the gardens.

Megan in the gardens. These are beginning to look like senior portraits...But at least there are people in
the shots so as to differentiate them from every other tourists' pictures. And this way we'll have some
evidence of our actually being there to show our children and grandchildren (not to metion our parents and
grandparents when we return).

A picture from the Alcázar balcony overlooking the gardens.

More of the gardens, with the Palace building and courtyard in the background.

Plaza de España
The Plaza de España is one of Seville's most easily recognised buildings.

The Plaza is a huge half-circle with buildings continually running around the edge accessible over the
moat by numerous beautiful bridges.

My sister tells me Plaza de España was used as a setting for Naboo in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of
the Clones, though you can imagine it was digitally modified to the max by Lucas like it was his job, and
is thus probably beyond recognition in the film.

This is the Torre de Oro ("Gold Tower") is a thirteenth century tower, the top of which is rumored to have
once been covered in gold.
