Facilitating and Co- Facilitating existing groups (including but not limited to Cognitive Intervention, Anger Mgt, Grief, Women's Issue, Family Issues); Developing and offering a group (determined by student level of expertise and interest); One-to-one client counseling; Weekly meetings with site supervisor and reporting additionally when necessary; Periodic attendance at department meetings and/or board meetings; Completion of the Security In-service; Coordinating client schedule with site supervisor; Uphold all ethical standards of the counseling profession and agency.
A culturally diverse population, both Lock-Up and Work Release inmates, male and female, with and without mental illness/personality disorder diagnosis, ages 16 through 90. It is also important to note that students will only work with clients who have requested to work with a counselor student.
A basic knowledge of counseling theory and preparation for Practicum or Internship Experience will be necessary for this site. Although experience within a correctional facility is helpful, it is not necessary.
