A web site for the WIDA Consortium, which is an organization comprising about 15 states, 150,000 students in K-12, and thousands of teachers.

By far the biggest project we have completed so far using Plone has been the web site for the WIDA Consortium, which is an organization comprising about 15 states, 150,000 students in K-12, and thousands of teachers. WIDA collaboratively creates assessment tests for English Limited Learners, and needed a community web site that would allow dissemination of news, events, freely available documentation in HTML, MS Word, and PDF formats, as well as authorized-user-only areas that contained similar documentation formats.

It was critical that WIDA have a web site on which non-technical users could easily create and maintain content. Plone fulfilled that requirement as well as many others, including accessibility standards, fast search capabilities, content creation separation from skinning/appearance, sophisticated permissions management, and large numbers of user accounts.

The WIDA Plone web site was up for three years, only recently having been turned off when the WIDA Consortium completed its move to a research institution which was not willing to support Plone. WIDA has since moved its web presence to an Adobe Contribute / IIS / ASP server at http://wida.us
