Notes from the first installment of our Plone Slow Jogs

Slow Jog #1

The agony of a painful and slow jog

Ezra Schoonover (Facilities Management): cache clearing - need to turn off cachefu during development. When a page is edited with Kupu, a Contents table appears - can we put it off to the side as a per page portlet? Used CSS for "directory table". [We need to create this as a campus portlet].

Dan Petersen: 2.5 -> 3.0 migration is a pain. Even 2.5.X updates require that site be offline for a minute. Need to warn users ahead of time, put up notice on sites. buildout will simplify?

Ben Vollbrecht (MIO): new to Plone.

Brian Trost: wants to refresh brain on skinning.

Nathan Van Gheem: customizing templates for view & edit. Controller page template. Metadata file issues. Create a big controller page template that includes expandable/collapsible fieldsets for new student, new school, new contact, new faculty member, and have the form's action script do the heavy lifting - do not use standard Archetypes portal factory.

Joel Kleier (MIO): how to do LDAP. Currently have to create roles for each site. PloneLDAP module. MIO working on converting more small sites to Plone.

Dave Niemuth: reading Plone book

Brian Ledwell: drop down menus. How to do mass emergency communication. How to get a single message up on all our Plone sites. E.g. replace header?

Kim Nguyen: OIE & Project Success. WTF is wrong with RSS portlet in Plone 3. Blogs using Plone 3. Quicksilver plugin for Plone site control?

For our next Slow Jog, at least two people will present, on a topic of their choice. After discussion and group working on any topics of interest, we can break off into smaller groups (pairs?) and keep working on our own Plone stuff.
