Another year, another OSA election
the OSA election system is powered by Plone
In late 2005 I was approached by the OSA president about the possibility of holding the upcoming election online. I was itching to do something different with this newfangled Plone, and agreed to the project. The March 2006 OSA election was held online on a custom Plone site and was a resounding success, quintupling the number of votes over the previous year's turnout.
Each year since, in late February or so, I dust off the OSA election site, prep it with the current list of candidates, the college affiliation of all our students, and any referendum questions, manically test it, and then watch while the voters log in over the two days.
Last year, we retired the already-superannuated big iron server that had (slowly) run the election system in favour of a VMWare virtual server that, in comparison, simply screams.
