What we would like to achieve with Plone at UW Oshkosh
Plone will allow us to do the following at UW Oshkosh:
- Replace unwieldy hand-coded web sites that have become too large or complex for a single webmaster to maintain in a timely way.
- Improve the accessibility of UW Oshkosh web sites by ensuring they meet the needs of visitors who use screen readers or have difficulty using a mouse for navigating a web site.
- Facilitate the updating of web site content by more than one person, resulting in the improved timeliness of web site content.
- Provide a fast, powerful search engine that indexes and retrieves all common types of web content, whether they are web pages, Word or PDF documents, or other unstructured text.
- Enhance internal communication processes of colleges, departments, and other campus organizations through the use of intranets, workflows, and similar information sharing systems.
- Develop guidelines for the UW Oshkosh family of web sites that clearly demonstrate a common brand identity, and make available commonly used templates and graphic design elements that form that common identity.
- Create a customized UW Oshkosh Plone package installer to get new projects off the ground quickly.
- Develop systems administration checklists and procedures for a variety of campus Plone installation types (intranets, public sites, confidential data).
