How we are training Plone users, site owners, and developers

User Training

Plone users who will be creating and editing web pages on Plone sites can receive training from IT's professional training staff, through scheduled classes and a user manual (see the training site's User Manuals section).

Site Owners and Administrators

Owners and managers of Plone sites receive individual training, since their Plone sites typically include custom functionality that we have created. Depending on the circumstances, site owners may have to manage login groups if they operate an intranet and may have to review web content submitted for approval. This training is usually provided by Brian Ledwell, Michelle Loker, or Kim Nguyen, usually in the IDEA Lab in the basement of Polk. Our philosophy is to train people who can turn around and train their own users, with our support.

Developers and Designers ("Skinners")

Plone developers who create custom modules ("products") and web designers who "skin" Plone sites participate in monthly Slow Jog events held in the IDEA lab. Slow Jogs are day-long events at which developers and skinners can collaborate in person on Plone projects and issues, and at which rotating volunteers give presentations on Plone techniques and tools. Slow Jog events are open to everyone - though the discussions will likely be quite technical. Please contact us if you would like to know more about the next Slow Jog event, or join the campus Plone developers mailing list.
