How to fix your login problem

by T. Kim Nguyen last modified Sep 24, 2009 10:20 PM

if you are unable to log into a UW Oshkosh Plone site

If you are unable to log into a UW Oshkosh Plone site (ie. its web address or URL includes "uwosh.edu"), please try the following.

The Correct Username and Password

Ensure that you are using the correct username and password.  If your UW Oshkosh email address is, say,
beeblebrox@uwosh.edu
then you must log into the Plone site with the username
beeblebrox
The password for the Plone site is exactly the same password you use to read your UW Oshkosh email.

Chances are that if you're unable to log into the Plone site it's because either you're trying to use the wrong password or your account was temporarily locked because you made several unsuccessful login attempts.

Testing Your Password

Verify that your username and password are correct.  To do this, open up a web browser, go to http://webmail.uwosh.edu and log in to read your email. webmail
If you were already reading your email via a browser, log out then log back in.

TESTING WITH OUTLOOK, EUDORA, THUNDERBIRD, OR APPLE MAIL WILL NOT CONFIRM THE PASSWORD PROBLEM -- YOU MUST USE A BROWSER AND TITANMAIL.

If your username and password are accepted and you can see your email messages in the browser, then your username and password are correct, and you should be able to use them to log into the Plone site.

Resetting Your Password or Unlocking Your Account

If you are unable to login to http://webmail.uwosh.edu then it is because either you do not have the correct password or your account has been locked because of "too many" unsuccessful login attempts.  To reset your password or to have your account unlocked, please call the Academic Computing Help Desk at (920) 424-3020.

If your account was locked because of unsuccessful login attempts, the lock will expire after an hour, so you could also just wait an hour and try again.
