Unique Aspects

  • Our Exercise Science academic approach focuses on meeting Health Promotion needs. Upon graduation our students will have become qualified in each of the important areas including behavior change facilitation, leadership, exercise programming, fitness assessment, nutrition, and current Health issues.
  • We encourage our students and faculty to live a healthy lifestyle and to encourage others to do the same. Our courses combine lectures, discussions and practical experiences related to the dimensions of wellness in order to improve their abilities. Our students are introduced to professional journals; they participate in group projects, perform fitness assessments and become involved with personal health improvement projects. They are also challenged to discover what their best talents are - they then learn to determine how to use these new found wellness concepts to assist in making quality personal and career decisions.
  • Another unique factor contributing to the success of the Exercise Science and Health Promotion professional preparation is that our students are exposed to many practical experiences in Behavior Change. They quickly learn that wellness is a function of the whole person and that many dimensions of life affect Health behaviors. In order for Behavior Change to be successful our students take into account the person’s life situation and their readiness for change. They can then suggest an individualized exercise program based on realizing the benefits, overcoming barriers and effective behavior-based goal setting.
  • Our curriculum quality continues to be showcased by our graduating seniors. There are Practical Experiences requirements for various classes culminating with a semester long internship at a work site.  Interns have been placed at prestigious organizations across the country including area Hospitals and Insurance Wellness programs, Corporate Worksites, Community YMCAs, University Strength & Conditioning programs and Health clubs. Our students are very competitive in job placements and many more have continued on with graduate work in the Exercise Science and Health Promotion field.
  • Our Exercise Science & Health Promotion Faculty and Staff have regional and national identity in The American College of Sports Medicine, The National Wellness Institute, National Strength and Conditioning Association, IDEA, Health and Fitness Association, and the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing.
  • Because our students are personally committed to a wellness lifestyle and are trained as behavior change facilitators, they stand head and shoulders above their competitors even as entry level practitioners.
