What to do if your class is full

Physics policy on wait lists

If your class is full, please contact Debra Suess (, Department Associate at 424-4433.

When the class you want is full, that means that all available seats have been taken by students who enrolled earlier than you. At this point, the department will begin to maintain a waiting list. Once you are on the waiting list, you will be notified when a seat opens up based on the order you got on the list. Seats become available when students decide to drop the class. It is always good to keep an eye on the class you want because sometime seats open up and get filled before the vacancy comes to the department's attention.

If there are sufficient resources available, the department will try to open sufficient seats for each student on the waiting list, but, this is not always possible. If you know there are classes you need for your major, it is better to take them as soon as you can rather than think you can take them later. Too often a senior cannot get into a lab class they need for graduation because it is already full and they must take the class in summer or the next semester.
