Philosophy Students Win OSA Presidency and Assembly Speakership

Congratulations to philosophy minor Austyn Boothe, elected Oshkosh Student Association President 2016-17, and philosophy major Samantha Swartz, elected OSA Assembly Speaker 2016-17!

Plato wrote that if the ideal society is ever to come into being, "philosophers [must] become kings…or those now called kings [must]…genuinely and adequately philosophize" (The Republic, 5.473d). Perhaps his only error was failing to understand that the philosopher queens would rule at least as well philosopher kings! Our guess is that Austyn and Samantha will prove this point next year!

The Philosophy Department is proud of the academic and non-academic accomplishments of all of our students, both present and former. If you have an accomplishment to share, please let us know and we will share it here or on the department's Facebook page!
