PBL works closely with Career Services to sponsor events on campus like speakers and workshops. They have conducted food drives on campus to benefit Father Carr's soup kitchen. They participate in OSA and collaborate with other student organizations to provide experiences to prepare students for the professional life.

One example: PBL teamed up with SLIC for an Etiquette Dinner in the fall 2004. They also bring in a number of professionals from the area to their meetings to talk on a variety of business topics.

Do you feel you would like more student involvement with your club?

Yes! Because the club is a general business club (PBL is the college version of FBLA) the more variety they have in the club the better the club becomes. Each unique perspective and idea helps the club grow.

What does the club do (in general)?

There is a definite emphasis on public service and professional development. PBL has taken time each semester to volunteer at the Humane Society. Members have participated in the State community service project which involves all of the state chapters of PBL. For professional development, they attend multiple conference to enhance networking opportunities. They also plan company visits to learn more about new industries and enhance general knowledge of the workplace.

Why does the club use Greek lettering/why is it called PBL?

PBL is the college level of FBLA. FBLA-PBL is a national organization and stands for Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda. In order to distinguish itself from the high school level, a Greek name was used. They also thought it would be more appealing to college students if the name was Greek.

An interesting fact about PBL:

PBL hosts the Annual COBA (College of Business Administration) Cup every spring. This is a kickball tournament in which all the College of Business organizations/clubs are invited to participate in. They even have a faculty team. This promotes networking between clubs but within a fun atmosphere. The club members and faculty mingle during kickball and the food provided afterward. There is also a traveling trophy for the winning team.
