The obligation of a lawyer to preserve the confidences and secrets of a client is controlled by strict policies. Information may be released to third parties only when written authorization is provided by the student. The confidentiality of a student-client file also will be protected in any monitoring, evaluation, or research undertaken by the OSA Student Legal Service.

All members of the legal profession in Wisconsin practice law subject to the restrictions of the Code of Professional Responsibility as promulgated by the State of Wisconsin Supreme Court. This code is based on the American Bar Association’s model code. Attorney conduct on programs like the Student Legal Service is regulated by the code in several areas.
